Footballers start season with defeat.

Limavady Rugby FC made the trip to Wilton Park for the season opener with Churchill. These two sides were relegated from Division 1 last year so would be among the favourites to go up this time round.

Unfortunately the home side came away with a 2-0 win after an abject performance from the Limavady men. Limavady manager Colly Hartin was most disappointed with the fact the side failed to carry their preseason form, where they were unbeaten, into the league campaign.

The huge pitch at Wilton Park played a massive part in the game with the Limavady side failing to get up the pitch and created very little going forward.

The two Churchill goals came from their veteran striker Noel Hawthorne. The first came from a sublime lob over Limavady keeper Seamy McAteer and the second followed a poor piece of defending from Limavady centre half Simon Irwin. Irwin got too tight to Hawthorne and the striker out-muscled his young counterpart.
