Local derby ends in defeat for LRFC

LRFC made the very short trip to Killane Road in the town for the first of two Limavady derbies in the space of two weeks, to face a Roe Valley side, who like the Rugby Club side were having a mixed season.

On a difficult pitch for both sides it was a former Rugby Club player Terence Owens who opened the scoring early in the first half. Limavady’s poor start to the game continued as they found it difficult to get a stronghold on the game but received a lifeline when a mistake from the young Valley keeper gifted the ball to LRFC striker Trevor Banks and he duly dispatched past the stranded keeper. In truth it was more than LRFC deserved and the sides went into the break level.

The second half started and progressed much in the same vain as the first with both sides cancelling each other out. A poor display from the Rugby Club boys was compounded when another former Rugby Club man, Simon Moore picked the ball up 25 yards out and rifled an effort beyond Limavady keeper Seamy McAteer with 10 minutes to go.

All in all it was a dismal display with manager Colly Hartin stating it was the worst he’s seen the team perform in all the years he both watched, coached and managed the side.
