LRFC crash out of Irish Junior Cup in 1st Round.

Crumlin United Reserves made the trip from Belfast to the John Hunter Memorial Grounds for the 1st round of the Irish Junior Cup, a cup which doesn’t hold great memories for the Rugby Club men. In fact the LRFC boys have never progressed beyond the 1st round of the cup in it’s short history.

The boys were hoping to change that this year and as always, teams being drawn against each other know very little about each other so anything can happen in cup football as the old saying goes.

Crumlin started the game very brightly and quickly found themselves 2-0 up and cruising towards a healthy half time lead. As the first half wore on Limavady grew in confidence and started passing the ball well and getting further up the pitch with more frequency. In truth though the only clear cut chance of the half fell to Kyle Wilson following good work out wide from Steven Young and James Smyth but Wilson could only put the ball over the bar on the stretch from six yards.

Crumlin came out in the second half and played vert smart football in all aspects of the game. They kept alot of possession in their defensive area forcing Limavady to come out of their positions and pounced when the opportunity arose and scored a further 3 goals with Limavady continuing to play football and attempting to create goalscoring chances.

Credit to the Limavady men for refusing to throw in the towel at 2 or 3 down but Crumlin ran out worthy winners with a 5-0 scoreline.
